| Answer: Yes, you need a domain name in order for your website to visible to others on the internet. |
| 2. Assigning the DNS. What is this? |
| Answer: In order for people to find your website your domain name must point to the location of your hosting. It includes the specific server, which your website files are located on. Assigning the DNS simply means, entering our nameservers into the DNS records, which can be found in the online system of the company you purchased your domain name from. |
| 3. What email addresses can I have? |
| Answer: You can have all combinations of email addresses which include A-Z, 0-9, - (hyphen) and _ (underscore). Email address will always be user@domainname.com |
| 4. How do I upload my website |
| Answer: Firstly you will need an FTP program, you can download many from the internet. Once you have your FTP Program running, start a new connection, and enter the details for FTP recieved in your account setup email. Browse to Public Http, and upload your desired files to that location. Your website will now be viewable on the internet. |
| 5. Backups? Should I do them and how often? |
| Answer: Yes, you should always keep a local copy of your website, on your computer. It would also be ideal to burn the website to a CD and put it in a safe place. Remember that fire will destroy a CD, and you may need to store the Backup elsewhere. Depending on the changes to your website, you may only need to back it up occassionaly, say every 6 months. However if your website is changed frequently a more routine backup should be done more often. |
